Ear Tutorial Resource by ConceptCookie Ear Tutorial Resource by ConceptCookie
The Ear Reference and Resource by Tim Von Rueden

Another Facial structure reference for you guys to use as a resource in your own work. This is something I've seen to help me draw ears and I hope it helps you as well. Ears can be tricky but if you think of them as a hook, y, and bump, it made drawings ears much easier for me.

I love the different sized ears. I hate drawing ears so much, that I try to hide them behind hair. Your tute is going to change this. Thanks for posting!

To point them like an elf its a couple of steps more at least for me. I usually draw a realistic ear then make adjustments and draw over it. A good technique is to not point the inside structure all the way and to have the cartilage do a vast majority of the shape. Also researching animal ears is also useful in understanding how they all work. Sometimes Ive done elven ears without true human influence in how they are done but that outwardly they look like they could be pointed human ears, yet they are done with mixed mixed anatomy from a feline, or another animal with pointed ears as well as human.

Same, that's why i wanted to include different angles since Ears aren't always just drawn from the side!

This tutorial was great! :D I get confused when it is so many lines in the ear and I did not realize that people had quite similar ears, but now I can just remember the hook, y and bump. Make it a lot easier to draw ears. :)

what i like the most about your tutorals is that you make each part of something look like something else to memorize it.. like "hook, y, then bump".... that ALONE made drawing ears for me personally...SOOOO much easier... so thank you great hero for helping me draw ears

As often as it comes up in art, sometimes you just forget the basics; break it into manageable shapes. I just never realized how to do that on an ear before, thanks for this.

Breaking down the different forms into shapes really helps me out when drawing things a bit more organically complex such as this!

Yeah, totally. It's just sometimes hard to break it into shapes, and then after, it's like, WHY DID THIS TAKE ME SO LONG!? Fah. Anyway, yeah, your tutorials are great, I saved them to my tutorial folders. Thanks again for making them! I've already started employing a couple.
